As we approach New Year’s and start setting new goals for for ourselves, it is important to go back and review the goals we set at the beginning of 2020. Did you work on them? Did you achieve them? Did they make it past January before you were done or forgot about it?
From about March on, most of our goals likely saw either a serious lag or an all-out halt. I know the goals I set around working out, travel, or time with friends all went out the window. And you know what? That’s OK! If you sat on the couch binging movie after TV show, you’re not alone and that is likely exactly what you needed in that moment.
For 2021, I’m setting fewer goals and allowing myself more grace to live in how I want to for that day. If I want to sit around watching old episodes of Real Housewives or Will & Grace, then that’s what I’ll be doing! If I want to working on my reading goal by knocking out a few chapters of a good book, then that’s what I will be doing! Either way, 2021 is going to be about what makes me happy and what gives me joy.
So, as you are setting goals for your new year, what makes you happy? What activities bring you joy? Write them down! Keep them somewhere that you will see often to remind you what to do when you need a pick-me-up or just want to relax. Give yourself the space to breathe and relax where you need to and focus on a few goals that will add to your overall happiness.
Happy New Year!
