Spring Refresh: Home Exterior

April 6, 2023

When we think about spring cleaning, we don’t often think about the outside of our house in that same breath. Yes, spring means gardening and all of that, but what about the rest of the house? Here are some ways to freshen up the exterior of your home every spring just like you would your interiors or decor!

Clean Out The Garage

I try to sweep out my garage at least twice a year: once when fall is setting in, and once when spring starts to emerge. Pick a warmer, sunnier day and pull everything out, give it a good sweep, and then only put back in what you know you will use/want to keep. Use this as a chance to pull double-duty and get rid of what is old/expired or that you just don’t use. Consider donating what you no longer need!

Power Wash

You wash your dishes or your clothes when they’re dirty, why not your house? Power washing may sound like a big undertaking or something you’ll have to hire someone to do for a hefty price tag, but it can be fun and cost you a lot less than you’d think. Home improvement stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot offer tools for rent by the day! You can snag a power washer for cheap for a day or a weekend to spray down the exterior of your home, deck/patio, garage floors, windows, and driveway. Bonus: If you go in on it with a neighbor or two who also want to do the same, you can split the cost!

Clear The Gutters

That age-old expression “April showers bring May flower” is no joke. Springtime means rain and your gutters being clogged can cause issues with how that rain is able to move over and away from your home. If you aren’t in a position to get them cleaned yourself (or you really just hate doing this and don’t want to), it is worth hiring a friend or professional to knock this one out for you.

Break Out The Patio Furniture

It’s time to get the patio furniture out of storage or just give it a good wash down after sitting out all winter. Refresh your cushions, get the grill a new bag of charcoal, string some lights, etc. It’s time to get your outdoor space ready for warmer days of relaxing in the sun.
