Where to Snag the Best Affordable Denim

July 28, 2018

The answer: Shop the back to school sales!

(Even if you aren’t going back to school)

For so many of us, August means back to school. Whether you yourself are getting ready to hit the books, have kiddos, or haven’t been on a school bus in who knows how long, August also means sales! Nearly every retailer is trying to take advantage of this time of year to secure sales of anything and everything someone would need from pre-k through college. So what does that me for us, my stylish friends? Discounts on all those cute new outfits you’ve had your hearts set on!

Personally, the one thing that I always try to stock up on (as needed) during these sales is denim. Good denim will last you for years, but like many other closet staples you do not have to break the bank to get denim that will be in it for the long haul. My absolute favorite spot for denim for the last few years has been Express. With denim you can certainly consider this an investment. This is the type of purchase where it is important to consider ‘cost per wear’. How many times would you wear a dark wash pair of skinny jeans? I can’t even count the number of times I’ve worn mine! For example, if I wore a pair of $80 jeans 150 times over the span of a few years, I would be looking at $.53 per wear. (Personally, I would guestimate I’ve worn some of mine even more than that in the time I’ve had them.) Not bad when you consider how many options a good pair of denim will create in your wardrobe.

Here are some brands that often have some of the best deals on affordable denim:

Express Buy one pair, get one deals or deep discounts are usually happening at Express so it’s easy to grab a pair at a lesser price than listed (always check their clearance section for great deals on denim, too!)

American Eagle

Lucky Brand This is the only brand of jeans my husband will even wear! The denim is so comfortable and the fit is great. They offer great quality for the price and have coupons and discounts throughout the year, too.

One quick note to bear in mind when shopping denim: ripped jeans are only for the weekend. If you’re looking for staples, look for a variety of styles (i.e. skinny, flared, boot cut) and washes (dark to light).

Have fun shopping!
