The last few years especially have seen social media truly have influence in how we think about ourselves and our style. I know that for me it has meant self-doubt at times; questioning if my outfit is ‘good enough’ for whatever it is I’m doing. If you’ve found yourself in a slump with your confidence in your everyday style, don’t let yourself be tricked into thinking you have to overhaul your wardrobe or your personality to fit the mold created for a few photos online.
These are the best tips for being your unapologetically stylish self:
Dress like the woman you are becoming
If you are getting dressed every morning for work and not wearing that blouse because it might make you look too much like some of the ‘higher ups’ in the company but that is exactly the job you want to get, wear that blouse! Lean into what feels right for you for the energy you have for your own life. If you want to be a badass boss babe that wears heels with her jeans, do it. Feed your lifestyle’s energy with the looks you choose every day.
Stop apologizing for your style
It is YOURS and no one gets to make you feel less than about it! Regardless of what is printed in the magazines or spouted off on social media, if you love your skinny jeans and they make you feel like fire when you wear them then do it!
Do what you feel
Headed to get groceries as your only real outing for the day but you want to wear a pair of heels or put on a full face of makeup for it? DO IT. Doing what makes you happy even when it is ‘only’ for running errands can boost your serotonin and that alone makes it worthwhile.
Wear what works for YOU
Don’t push yourself into a style that just doesn’t work for you and your lifestyle. As a mom to a toddler, wearing heels in a lot of situations doesn’t work for me in the same way it did a few years ago. Stilettos get saved for night’s out at Fashion Week while other times mean flats or chunky shorter heels that make it easier for me to chase down my little gentleman. But that’s what works for me in this point in my life, so that’s the direction my style will take.
Lastly, remember that you are you and no one else can say that. You have the ability to be uniquely you and that is a gift that no one can take from you.
