My 5 Favorite KC Dates

September 13, 2019

After nearly eight years together, I still love dating my husband! We have spent the majority of our relationship in Kansas City, where he grew up, and have really leaned into exploring the city more since moving back from Austin, TX earlier this year. Every week, we go on a date together just the two of us. While we love spending time with friends and family, this is our time to spend together as a couple to stay connected.

1. KC Taco Company and a walk around the River Market District

First of all, KC Taco Co. never disappoints! The tacos are legit (and that is coming from someone who got bougie about tacos while living in Texas) and the bar makes a fruity margarita that packs a punch. Each time we have visited, we have walked around the River Market area and found a new shop, happened upon a vendors pop-up market, or caught a free outdoor concert. Not to mention, if you save room, Betty Rae’s is hailed as the best ice cream in Missouri and is just around the block!

2. Boulevard Brewing Tour

If you live in KC and haven’t done the Boulevard tour, you aren’t living here correctly. Even if you aren’t a huge beer drinker (I’m with you there), the tour guides are hilarious and the content is actually interesting. The $5 tickets are worth the trouble to get (and they’re FREE on Wednesdays!). The best bet is to head down early in the day to snag whatever time they have available and then catch a bite to eat before jumping into your tour group (if you have that time to kill). That food ahead of time is the best way to soak up the many delicious Boulevard beer tasters you are given throughout the tour, too.

3. Parlour KC

This is the door to the ladies’ room at Parlour KC…so you know it’s good.

Our new favorite spot! Think of Parlour as the 2019 version of the mall food court…with alcohol. They have not one but two bars across the two floors of food vendors. Each vendor offers a different type of food from pizza to kabobs to sliders and not one has disappointed us yet. Parlour hosts plenty of events to try including trivia nights and themed parties (check them out on social for all the details). The rooftop patio is a great spot to enjoy the downtown view looking out from the Crossroads district. Bonus: First Fridays in Crossroads is a great time to enjoy live music and street vendors.

4. Picnic In The Park

If you are an outdoor person, one of my go-to’s is the Shawnee Mission Park in Lenexa. The park itself is massive and includes an awesome off-leash dog parks that our 4-legged kids love to hit with us any chance they get. If you aren’t on puppy duty, the lake within the park offers kayak and paddleboard rentals in addition to the entire space being picture perfect for a picnic on any given day.

5. Walk Among The Sunflowers

What better way to celebrate the Kansas state flower than to walk through a gorgeous field full of them? Grinter’s Sunflower Farm is just outside of Lawrence (Rock Chalk!) and boasts some of the best sunflowers in the state. The farm makes for a romantic fall day-date as the sunflowers tend to bloom in the late summer and into the more crisp fall days.

Grinter’s Farm is located at 24154 Stillwell Rd, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Whether you choose to try some of our favorite date ideas with your partner or enjoy with a group of friends, take some time to soak up the company of those you love by doing something fun in KC!
