Don’t Hide It…Organize It!

August 19, 2018
Organizing your closet doesn’t need to be a daunting task. Even if you don’t consider yourself to be an extremely organized person, there are easy solutions that can work for you. I have a few tricks that have helped me in both organizing and better utilizing my closet.
First and foremost, the phase “out of sight, out of mind” rings especially true with your wardrobe. If I don’t see a piece of jewelry or pair of boots that is hiding in the back of the closet, I likely won’t think about it and will go a year or two in between wears if not longer. Having your options at your fingertips makes it easier to see all of the puzzle pieces and put them together. This can be as simple as hanging all of your tops and jackets as opposed to storing them in a dresser drawer. I have gone the route of organizing mine by color so that I can browse through the options based on what color I am drawn to on any given day. You can even get creative in how you create a closet. Have an extra bedroom? Turn it into your wardrobe! Shelving and racks are available from retailers like Wayfair and Ikea and can turn a wall or full room into your dream closet.

Secondly, don’t be afraid to get some help in the form of organizational tools. There are so many options available now that it is almost criminal not to take advantage of them. The trick is to find what works best for you and the space you have available. During your closet edit, look around and figure out what part of your wardrobe needs a face lift. Do you have shoes lining the bottom of your closet (often in unflattering piles after trying on a few with your outfit before heading out for the day)? Maybe it’s time for a shoe rack! In the past, I have used a shelving unit to house my shoes, making it super easy to see all of my options for any outfit while also showing them off in my home. Currently, I have a double-lined shoe rack as seen below that is doing the trick. In my current space, this works best for me. The option below is from Wayfair, which has some great home deals, but I found mine at Home Goods. They always have great storage solutions!

Lastly, think outside the box! A bookshelf could display your scarves, jewelry, or shoes. A desk, like the one below from Ikea, can become a showcase for some of your go-to accessories. Make your space something that you want to look at and enjoy!
